I ask you, is there anything better than a hot fudge sundae on a hot summer day? Well there is — a brownie hot fudge sundae! :) Ice cream, chocolate and brownies. They’re simple, easy and one of the best loved desserts any time.

P.S. Don’t forget the nuts and whipped cream!

Tips:

  • Sprinkle the crumbs from a bag of pretzels on your ice cream rather than using nuts for something different.
  • Serve your hot fudge sauce in a gravy boat or a small pitcher.
  • Chocolate sauce isn’t just for ice cream. Try using chocolate sauce drizzled over cheesecake, strawberries, strawberry or chocolate pie or cake. Ahhhh!!! Let me see… Is there anything that you can’t drizzle chocolate sauce over that the chocolate sauce doesn’t make even better?? :)

Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup packed plus 1 Tbsp. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup margarine or butter
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients except vanilla in a saucepan and heat to a rolling boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Serve warm or chilled. Makes 3 cups.

Chocolate Syrup Recipe

1/2 cup cocoa, packed
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup water
1/4 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sugar

Mix cocoa and water in a saucepan. Heat and stir to dissolve the cocoa. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve. Boil 3 minutes. Add the salt and the vanilla. Pour into a sterilized jar. Store covered in the refrigerator. Keeps for several months. Makes 2 cups.

More Hot Fudge

1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
4 (1 oz.) semi sweet chocolate squares (You could use about 1/2 bag chocolate chips)
2 Tbsp. butter (not margarine)
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix everything but vanilla and heat on a stove or in microwave until chocolate is melted. Stir in vanilla.

You can make EASY and delicious meals at home in less time than eating out! You’ll save a ton of money on food and your family will thank you!

In the last recipe if you used half a bag of chocolate chips in place of the 4 (1 oz) squares semisweet baking chocolate you would be increasing the the chocolate ingredient by 50%. The average bag of chocolate chips is 12 oz and measures to be 2 cups of chips. to get the same 4 oz you would use 2/3 cups chocolate chips. Although more chocolate is always nice :) Also, what is the asterisk on the title for the chocolate syrup for?

The asterisk was left on by mistake. The amount of chips given was done to make measuring a little easier for everyone if they wanted to use chips instead. There are as many recipes out there for this as there are people and all of them use a different amount of chocolate and different kinds of chocolate. It really doesn’t make any difference at all for this recipe.

A friend gave me homemade hot fudge sauce for Christmas last year in a cute basket. She added two ice cream dishes she got on clearance from Crate and Barrel last summer, two spoons, and a pkg, of cute napkins. I had been thinking of doing the same for my friends. Thanks for the recipes! Yummy!!

I never was a big chocolate fan but with my newly diagnosed kidney disease, I cannot have it at all any more. Now, it seems like everything I read has a recipe for something chocolate and I really want some, of course. :)Occasionally, I’ll have a peanut M & M but rarely since it is a no-no. These recipes look delicious so will probably make some as gifts. Perhaps I can lick my fingers or something! :) Anyway, I am now eating caramel toppings instead of hot fudge and it’s not bad.

Maggie I have always said the best diet for me is to allow myself to eat anything I want. What happens is I don’t crave very many things or even desire them that much but like you the minute I am told I can’t eat something even if I normal don’t eat it that much that is the one thing I crave. It must be hard but eating caramel is a good way to go. Butterscotch sauce is good too if you need a variety.

Butterscotch is my new favorite pudding. My husband has always loved butterscotch but I’ve been lukewarm about that flavor, until now. It’s very, very sweet but with some whipped cream topping, it seems less so. I’ve also had to give up potatoes and tomatoes and all other things high in potassium but I don’t crave them much anymore. Unless, someone has some hot fries on my table. We don’t eat french fries at home but my husband still has baked potatoes. I just have to make very small portions so no leftovers, no temptations.
Jill, one question. Are the recipes you show on these daily emails always in the Dining on a Dime cookbook. I usually just go home and check but if not, I want to print them out and add them to my cookbook. Could you state in your email whether these are in the cookbook? Don’t know if this is an additional step that is too much trouble but I would sure appreciate it. I’ve said this before, but I love the cookbook.

Maggie not all of them are in Dining. Before we changed over to the new web site we tried to always let everyone know if they are in Dining. I still do sometimes will try to let you know on them as often as I can. Some are repeats from awhile back that I put on for our new readers and I may over look those but will try to let you know some where on them when I can.

Great recipe! My 12 year old daughter and I just made this tonight (we made the hot fudge with the chocolate chips) and had fun doing it. My only question : it hardened as the ice cream cooled it (not bad, we still enjoyed it :) Is this normal or did we burn the mix? Thanks for the recipe.

That is normal for that recipe as a matter of fact when you put this recipe in the fridge you can use it as fudge and cut it into squares. I love it most with a couple of scoops of it in milk to make cocoa with it. The first recipe in this post with the evaporated milk doesn’t get as hard so if you want something softer you could try that if you want.

Actually, we did store it in the fridge and have been eating it like fudge, like you said :) (Albeit in very small pieces since it is so rich.) And my husband tasted it today with his ice cream (we reheated it in the microwave, just as we would have the store bought kind) and he said we would be making our own from now on.. Lol! Thanks for the quick reply!
